As The Gluten-free RD, it is my mission to provide those on a gluten-free diet with the information and resources they need to strike a balance between eating gluten-free and healthfully, while doing it happily. I will share my thoughts, opinions, experiences and evidence-based nutrition advice about how to eat gluten-free healthfully at home, in restaurants, while traveling, and on the run.
Who I am:
I’m a registered dietitian and experienced food and nutrition communications professional with Celiac Disease. I provide food companies, retailers, restaurants and foodservice providers with nutrition marketing, communications, education and spokesperson expertise to help them educate the public about their products and services. Since being diagnosed, my focus has been on helping and educating the gluten-free community.
Why this blog:
As you all know, avoiding gluten 100% of the time is a life-changing, time-consuming and emotionally-charged challenge. It’s hard enough for the general population to eat a healthful diet. We have to first worry about avoiding gluten (in a society where gluten is in almost everything we eat), then figure out alternative ways to get back the nutrients we are missing before we can even begin to think about an overall healthy diet. While gluten-free food manufacturers and service providers have made our lives easier and taste buds happier, we have to be just as smart, if not smarter than the general population about the food choices we make.
That’s where I come in. My nutrition education, food industry background and practical experience managing a gluten-free diet allow me to provide a unique perspective to the gluten-free community, one that combines evidence-based nutrition advice with practical, hands-on insight.
I hope you enjoy what I have to share.
